Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey will be featured on the Radio 2 Book Club on Monday 16 June.
The book was selected with the help of a panel made up of Reading Agency and library staff from across the UK.
Elizabeth is Missing
The note in Maud’s pocket is written in her own handwriting, and reads ‘Elizabeth is missing’.
Lately, Maud’s been getting forgetful. She keeps buying peach slices when she has a cupboard full, forgets to drink the cups of tea she’s made and writes notes to remind herself of things. But Maud is determined to discover what has happened to her friend, Elizabeth, and what it has to do with the unsolved disappearance of her sister Sukey, years back, just after the war.
Maud will make you laugh and cry, but she certainly won’t be forgotten.
Selection panel review
Our selection panel thought this was a great read. This is what they had to say:
“You enter into Maud’s confused world. She is often disorientated but still sure something has happened to her friend Elizabeth and determined to get to the truth. The characters are beautifully drawn, especially Maud’s exasperated, worried daughter and the amused, laidback grand-daughter.”
“Original, sad and funny.”
“It is sure to be a book that reading groups will take to and enjoy talking about.”
