Join in the Orange Prize library events

The Orange Prize for Fiction 2012 winner is announced on Wednesday 30 May and readers and reading groups have been busy reading their way through the shortlist. This week, many libraries will be hosting Orange Prize events where readers will vote for their own Orange Prize winner. Here’s a taster of what’s going on:

Orange Prize Garden Party at Gateshead Central Library

Join us in the Gateshead Central Library Garden at 2.15pm on Tuesday 29 May as we discuss this year’s books shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction and vote for which one you think will win. Tickets £2 and free for all Gateshead Libraries’ Readers’ Group members. Tel: 0191 433 8410.

Orange Prize Party at Hull Central Library

On Tuesday 29 May at 7pm we’ll be holding a party at the Central Library in Hull to discuss the Orange Prize shortlisted books – there will be orange food and drink, quizzes and prizes, and you get to vote for your favourite book. Tickets cost £3 from the Lending Library counter.

Orange Prize Evening at Guille-Alles Library

Local celebrations of the Orange Prize will culminate on Wednesday 30 May at 7:30pm with an Orange Evening in the Guille-Alles Library, when readers will discuss the shortlisted titles and vote for Guernsey’s winner. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided.

Orange Prize Fiction Night at Windsor Library

Join our panel of authors at Windsor library at 8pm on Wednesday 30 May. The panel will be championing each of the Orange Prize shortlisted books then you can vote for your favourite. Our Windsor winner will be announced at the same time as the national winner is revealed – will you agree? You can also enter our prize draw to win the entire shortlist.

An evening with Madeline Miller at Twickenham Library

Meet Orange Prize shortlisted author Madeine Miller at Twickenham Library on Thursday 31 May at 7pm. The story of the epic Trojan Wars brilliantly told for a new generation. Madeline Miller is a passionate advocate for the classics and for the value of the classical stories in the modern world. Deeply immersed in the Greek and Roman myths as a reader, student and teacher, she has spent ten years writing The Song of Achilles. It is a truly extraordinary debut.

Booking is essential and tickets are £2, to book visit your local library or book online.

Radio 2 Book Club - Winter titles

The Winter season of the Radio 2 Book Club is out now, with brilliant brand-new fiction titles to discover. The BBC Radio 2 Book Club is on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show.
