Get ready for National Reading Group Day

National Reading Group Day is happening this Saturday 30 June. The Day celebrates reading groups and book clubs wherever they take place – libraries, bookshops, community centres, pubs, churches, bakeries, cafes, schools, work places, theatres, hospitals, prisons, cinemas, online or, of course, your home.

Exclusive offers

We’ll be putting up exclusive offers and competitions during – including the chance for your reading group to win a visit from Chris Cleave, Victoria Hislop or Jojo Moyes. If your group fancies something slightly different – you could win reading group sets of School of Life titles and a visit from a School of Life pracititioner. A taster of what’s going on

Libraries and bookshops aross the country will be inviting readers to come and find out more about reading groups and book clubs – where to find one locally and how to start one. There are author visits, displays and meet ups taking place. Here’s a taster of what’s going on:

Chris Longmuir at Angus Libraries

Author Chris Longmuir will be talking about her bestselling Dundee crime novel Dead Wood and her experiences as a publisher of e-books via Amazon. The event is free and takes place 2pm – 4pm at Montrose Library.

Reading group meet up in Darlington

Members of local reading groups are invited to join library staff for coffee, cake and a quiz on a National Reading Group Day at 2pm – 3.30pm at Crown Street Library. If you’re thinking of joining a reading group or setting one up, do come along to find out more about reading groups. Contact Crown Street Library on 01325 349610 to confirm attendance at the event.

Crime writers conversation at Dudley Library

Come and meet crime writers, Priscilla Masters,Tom Bryson and David Gold at this free event taking place at 10.30am, Dudley Library. You’ll also be able to find out about reading groups in Dudley and join one.

Libraries in Denbighshire will be celebrating National Reading Group Day with displays of books and comments by reading group members. Pop along to your local library to get information about groups which meet in libraries and advice on how to set up a reading group.

Essex Libraries Top 50 books for reading groups

To mark National Reading Group Day, Essex Libraries have compiled a Top 50 list of books that Essex Libraries Reading Groups have been reading over the last year. All the books featured are available to reserve now for your group. Find out more about how Essex Libraries support reading groups.

Crime, chat and biscuits at Nottingham’s reading group

Join Nottingham Central Library for a special reading group to celebrate the Day. We’ll be discussing David Belbin’s Bone and Cane series along with any other crime novels that you would like to talk about or recommend. Lodden Loves Books reading group in residence

Loddon Library in Norfolk has invited the local book group Loddon Loves Books to be in residence for a morning of tea, biscuits and books. Come along between 11am – 12pm to find out more about being part of a reading group and for friendly chat.
