Dickens Champions go to the theatre

Please Sir, I want some more,” Yes you’ve guessed it! Of course it’s Oliver!. We Dickens Champions from the Immaculate Conception Book Group in Southampton were thrilled when the touring production of Oliver! came to The Mayflower Theatre, Southampton fresh from its record breaking run at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in the West End.

Starring Brian Conley as Fagin and a huge cast of extraordinarily talented singers and dancers and absolutely marvellous child actors, we knew we were in for a treat. Of course, we women ’_d’une certaine age_’ were catapaulted nostalgically back to our youth, when Lionel Bart’s songs from Oliver! were played on our Mums and Dads’ record players. Consequently it was very tempting to and on occasions impossible not to sing along.

It was a fabulous production and as our photo shows, we had a wonderful evening. We would heartily recommend this musical to Dickens Champions up and down the country. It is touring all over Britain, so look out for it!

If you’d like to see Oliver! check out the tour dates and venues here.
