Clonclyfrau launched with books, cake and fun and The 2 Steves

Lots of fun was had with books and a big celebration cake at the national launch of Clonclyfrau/Chatterbooks reading groups for children in Wales. Children, parents, teachers and library staff all had a brilliant time with authors Steve Barlow and Steve Skidmore – aka the 2 Steves. Children from Ysgol Esgob Morgan got to dress up as heroes and act out scenes from the 2 Steves’ I Hero series, where the reader gets to choose what happens throughout the story. At the end of the hugely competitive show (won by Steve Barlow’s Bravehearts!), everyone tucked into a celebration cake.

We are proud to be official Chatterbooks champions. Reading is so important and we want to help to make it fun for everyone and get kids chattering about books! The 2 Steves.

Superhero fun.

Superhero fun with the 2 Steves. Children from Ysgol Esgob Morgan go to the Clonclyfrau/Chatterbooks Reading Group at St. Asaph library, run by Kara Knott. They have a large part in deciding what they want to read, and what activities they want to do. They’re joined by children from another local school, which is a Welsh medium school, and it’s a great opportunity for the children from the two schools to mix and get to know each other.

Tim Redgrave, the headteacher at Ysgol Esgob Morgan in St Asaph, puts literacy first at the school, and he gives the Clonclyfrau/Chatterbooks scheme every support, welcoming the chance to work with the local library.

He says: Reading is the cornerstone to a child’s education. If we are able to develop a child’s desire to read for pleasure then this can only have a positive impact in all other areas of their learning. We have been working very closely with our local library, developing this appetite for books and as a result we have had a fantastic response – especially with the wonderful results achieved in the summer reading challenge. We are thrilled to have been asked to be the host for the launch of Clonclyfrau/Chatterbooks and very proud of the young readers in our care!
