Baileys Prize: the winner of the reading group vote

Tonight, the winner of The Baileys Prize will be announced in London. We asked reading groups to vote for who they think should win and 44% of you chose The Goldfinch.

What you said

“The Goldfinch was a near-perfect reading experience for me. As I turned the pages I felt like I was really watching the story play out all around me, and Theo’s world was more richer and more real than my surroundings.” Laura Suisted

“This is my hands down favourite. It was the first one I read, and despite the length, I read it very quickly and in great, thirsty gulps. I found the clarity of the prose and the intense detail made for an utterly immersive experience.” Meg Sanders

“The vivid descriptions of people and place, and intense emotions experienced by the characters, gave the book a dreamlike quality. You do not need to have a passion for art to understand the profound impact the titular piece has on Theo and others in the book, their experience is so well imagined that you feel part of it.” Karen McPherson
