In 19th-century Baltimore, Roger Button is horrified when he sees his newborn son -- a newborn son who is actually a wizened old man who can walk and talk. Though Benjamin treated like a child, he has the habits and mentality of an elderly man. By the time he reaches the age of 12, he finds he is actually ageing backwards.

We watch Benjamin's life go on, and him dealing with the problems of trying to live a normal life - trying to get into college, working, falling in love and marrying. However, as his body reverses in age, so does his mind. He begins to do all the things that young men of the time do, until his incredibly strange lifespan reaches its end.

A fantastic story, following Benjamin as he changes and evolves, and examining how the world deals with a man who is aging backwards.
