The book started quite slow, but by the end I was really into it and couldn't put it down. It was a fictional story about Miles, moving to a new school to try and find himself. The story tells the building of friendships during the adolescent years, falling in love ( some what unrequited) and of loss and grieving. The book touches on the subject of suicide and also the need to try and find an answer or explanation for death.
The characters are quite complex and very colorful, with the Colonel being my favourite.

I really enjoyed reading most of John Green's books and this one I would recommend to ages 12+ readers. It is a fiction which touches on several issues like, friendship, family communication, mental health problems and many more to list. All I can say is, we can all relate to at least one of the scenarios the characters are going through or feeling. It will be a great discussion point among friends.

Looking for Alaska was not just a love story there is so much more to it.

The book starts when Miles Halter or "Pudge" as he is referred to throughout the book, who memorise people's last words. He leaves Florida to attend a school in Alabama.

He's introduced by his roommates "Cornell "and to beautiful, mysterious Alaska Young, and the story progresses, mostly it shows how Miles' life at Culver Creek and his growing attachment to Alaska.

The book showcases young love and mystery behind Alaska's death and how Pudge discovered her mysterious death and labyrinth.

I really did not enjoy this book. Though I really could not bare it a tried my best and finally finished this book, not enjoying very much of it towards the end. My main problems would be the characters, student geniuses that are always smoking, getting drunk and talking about sex. Found it so hard to relate to any of the characters and felt that at times they all had this very unbelievable john green voice to them that was older than there years. Lara was one character I came close to relating to but as I said, only came close. the writing style is good and think that was the only thing that was helping me get through this book. I understand the meanings within this book and it talks on serious issues but I don't like how these are inconclusive by the end. I feel like the book went on longer than it needed to, adding things that didn't really effect how we viewed the book or the characters with in it.
Throughout the book Alaska is seen as an object to the male characters at the school. With this Pudge still believes he loves her, but the way he describes his emotions for her I see as nothing but desire, he didn't love Alaska, he desired her.
Rant over I just really did not enjoy this book and did not get the emotional and heart felt story I was expecting. I went into this book expecting a love story that was broken apart very early, instead I just got selfishness from the main character morning his friends death.

I liked the story but I found the characters annoying and one-dimensional. I didn't care about what happened to Alaska.

I thought this book was very clever in the way it dealt with emotions of teenage characters. It's refreshing to see someone write in such a way that you too develop an emotional connection to characters and their situations. I would recommend this to anyone who listens though it is quite emotional and the ending will irritate you slightly.

John Green has once again made his magic!

I really loved this book, as it was very well written and the characters all had their own personalities and back-stories that were very easy to bond with and go along with. The fictional character I liked the most was Chip or 'The Colonel' as he liked to be called, as I thought he had the strongest personality, and I felt he was easy to bond with. I would recommend this book, as this author is a great writer and the books I have read by him have so far been amazing.

This book was a brilliant read. I would recommend it to people mainly 13 and above due to graphic content that may not be suitable for young readers. Despite this factor, I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and will pass it on.
