A beautifully written novel with a sense of underlying threat throughout. Set in modern day South Africa the story, although enjoyable and entertaining if taken at face value, could possibly be seen as a metaphor for the country itself with the tension between Blacks and Whites, the organised crime and corruption, the nepotism and oppression, the perceived need to take advantage and on the other hand the poets and idealists.
