By turns funny, serious, engrossing and tedious, a bit like the so-called easy jobs tried by the young woman protagonist in the novel. It's a great translation from Japanese by Polly Barton as we're taken through the wierd and wonderful happenings in each of the jobs and to the final conclusion that manages to stitch everything together. Definitely different.
