A beautifully written tale of courage, friendship, and survival.
Imagine a tiny island far out in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Scotland. On some days, you can hardly see where the sea ends and the land begins, everything merged in a blue-grey mist of sea spray and wind-blown sand. There is nothing between here and America. I say nothing, but what I mean, of course, is nothing but ocean. And about sixty-five kilometres out to sea, one last remote outcrop of islands and sea stacks, with the highest sea cliffs anywhere in the UK-St Kilda. Distant, desolate, and difficult to reach. The islands at the edge of the world . . .

An exciting and well described story. We loved it
It was incredible! The plot was really well thought out and the characters personalities and appearances almost seemed like the author had seen them before. I loved this book and I highly recommend it!
I very much enjoyed reading this book, having seen it on my sons' bookshelf for a couple of years. This reading challenge gave me the extra incentive to finally read it, thank you! Just before heading off to the Outer Hebrides on holiday, I took this book, not knowing it just happened to be the exact location of the story, wonderful! I therefore learnt about the local fauna and flora and could picture the scenes so vividly. It was an exciting adventure, but what I particularly liked about the book was how the leading boy's character gradually changed for the better. It gives hope to those who feel possibly trapped within themselves and a belief that one can feel freer, if you just step out of your comfort zone every so often. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone whose horizons needs broadening.
We read this with our year 5 class as part of our coasts topic and they really enjoyed it. They gained an excellent understanding of the two main characters and were able to write the middle section of the book, taking forward what they had learnt. The author uses lots of short sentences which was interesting to discuss with the children, although I felt this made it a little difficult to read aloud.
This book is overall good and I would definitely recommend it. I found it hard to catch up with but by the end of the story I realised what was going on.
This book is fictional and very interesting. It is about a teenage girl who helps a 11 year old boy overcome their fear of the sea and to find her long lost dad. It is a really caring and adventurous book.
I would recommend this book for for 10+ because it is not a short book and it is hard to keep up with the book.
I likes Mara and how brave she was. I would recommend for ages 10+
This was a fictional book about people in Scotland going of to see this is a great adventure book for someone who loves to read with tiny words and lots of pages so not for the littler people in this world recommend for around 11-14 year olds as is a great detailed book with no pictures
