Dark times lie ahead for Special Agent Ren Bryce and the Rocky Mountains Safe Streets Task Force in the heart-stopping new thriller from the bestselling author of DARKHOUSE and BLOOD LOSS.

This was a dark and disturbing story. Its graphic detail was quite sickening. I found the main character irritating with her refusal to take her medication and disregard of those around her. Nevertheless the book was definitely a page turner and maintained its gripping and thrilling momentum.

I thought the ending was weak when the heartless killer started whimpering about his childhood. It was such a bleak ending with all those close to Special Agent Ren wiped out. Probably not my kind of book but I did not put it down until the end.

I wasn't sure about this book. The main detective, Ren Bryce, is bi-polar but has made the decision not to take her meds even though she is being monitored by her superior officer. Is this realistic for an active police officer? Having said this, the book is quite a page turner as Ren is on the hunt for a serial killer. However, I found it slightly irritating that Ren's thoughts, following a normal conversation, are added in italics all the way through as extra dialogue. There's a lot of graphic description of the bodies which I skipped through as I felt I didn't need that much detail and a lot of violence. What I found really strange that when cornered, the killer changes from a 'hard man' out for revenge to a whiny, whinging 'poor me' character. I thought this was really out of character. The ending is really bleak for Ren. So, mixed feelings which is why it only gets three stars from me.
