On the eve of the winner announcement of the 2011 Wellcome Trust Book Prize, the prize judges – Tim Lott, Erica Wagner, Vivienne Parry, Joanna Bourke and Roger Highfield – will be discussing literary death scenes.What makes a good one? What separates the unintentional hilarity of Little Nell’s demise in The Old Curiosity Shop from the catharsis and dramatic resolution of Harry Angstrom’s exit in the closing scenes Rabbit at Rest?
