National Reading Group Day 2024

Save the date! On Thursday 12 September 2024 we’ll be celebrating National Reading Group Day.

Here at The Reading Agency, we love reading groups and all the brilliant things they give us; regular connections with others, the opportunity to discover new books and authors, and discussions that can go on long into the night.

We want you to join us in celebrating on 12 September 2024 with your book club:

  • Host a book club meeting! It’s the perfect day to get together
  • Ask everyone to bring someone new to your meeting to share the fun
  • Share the books that you’ve loved over the past year on social media tagging @reading_groups and #NationalReadingGroupDay
  • Check out the offers page for upcoming Read & Review offers from our publisher partners and booklists to find your next read
  • Libraries can download an activity toolkit with ideas on how to celebrate with your groups

Why join a reading group?

Last year we asked reading group and book club members about their experiences and what benefits being part of their group has on them. Because of joining their group…

  • 94% of people read more widely
  • 94% read more widely
  • 94% feel more connected to others
  • 94% talk about reading to others more often
  • 90% feel happier
  • 91% enjoy reading more when we discuss what we have read at the reading group
  • 78% feel more confident to try other things
  • 77% read more

What are you waiting for? Join a group or start your own today.

Reading Groups for Everyone will be launching as the Book Club Hub on 2 April

Reading Groups for Everyone will be changing to our new Book Club Hub on 2 April 2025. As well as offering a more inclusive and welcoming experience for reading groups, we will be expanding news and offers to include opportunities for leaders of children’s and young people’s book clubs. This is to support The Reading Agency’s mission of getting more people fired up about reading because everything changes when you read.
