This book is great, because Michael Morpurgo is a great author. I don't want to give any spoilers, so if you want to find out stuff, just read the book. My favourite character is either Maman or Auntie snowdrop.

I live this book because I live reading about how other people lives were in world war 1/2.It was factual because it was about a actual man's life in world war 1.It was fiction in some bits of the story like when he had a girlfriend and a kid but he didn't know he had a kid.I would recommend it to 8+ because alot of people die in this book.[well I think people would die because this is a war book]Ya so it was amazing!!

It was very sad and personal and I fell like it shouldn't be shared or read. It was very upsetting but I still quite enjoyed it. I thought the only funny bit was the very last sentence when Jasper really likes the chips. I think it is very sad and am only rating it 4/5. (I rarely ever rate books below 5 as not to hurt the author's feelings.)

Michael is left fatherless after his Dad passes away in the Second World War.But is there more to his boring aunties and courageous father than he could have ever imagined?Aunt Snowdrop has left a letter for Michael in secret place. And now,he understands the truth of his family, and about his father. But he must keep everyone in the family unformed of this new-found legacy. He and his great-great grand-daughter choose to bury the medal that Leroy never had in No-Man's-Land.

I found this book very good. It really made my cry when I thought about how many soldier's from WW1 and 2 had died unrecognised. I really liked how throughout the book they always had a Jack Russell and called it Leroy.

It was descriptive and emotional. The story is about a boy whose dad is a soldier who dies in the war. Then he goes to meet his auntie who gives him custard to eat but he doesn’t like it. When he was little his mum said that custard was his favourite dish but then he went off it.

This is an interesting story. The story is about a soldier called Leroy who fell in love with a nurse in the military. It was factual. I think this is interesting because i love adventure stories and soldiers. There was a dog called Jasper and he was my favorite character. I will recommend this to children and it is interesting to adults as well.

It is a story about how black people are treated unfairly. It was story about a dog called Jasper and a black man who went to war. The black man found the dog and the dog decided to help them. The black man saved 3 lives in the battle fields but he didn't get rewarded. People kept sending messages to get him the Victorian medal but one bad day he died and Jasper disappeared. His son also went to war but his aeroplane got bashed by the enemies and fell into the sea and he drowned. But the black man's wife got another dog that looked exactly the same and also called him Jasper. She had a sister and they lived in a little cottage and they were the aunties of a little boy and his mother hated Jasper and their little gnomes in the garden. Every time they came to visit they would throw snowdrops into the water to remember the boy's father and the black man who was his uncle. One day the black man's wife fell ill and passed away and one day her sister went to get the post before Jasper chewed it up but Jasper tripped her over and she hurt her leg and went to hospital. Now nobody cared for Jasper but the aunty asked for the little boy and his mum to care for Jasper. His mum made very strict rules that Jasper couldn't go onto beds or steal any food. As the boy grew older he had a wife and a nice family. One day his little girl and him walked out to the field where the black man died in battle because his son had a medal because his skin was white and they buried it where he died so that he could also enjoy the medal.

A really sad but good story about a boy finding out about who he really is

05 Dec 2020

I thought this book was epic! I think that Leroy was a brave man but also that both aunties/grannies were very mysterious espicially Pish or Mary. I think I liked Leroy the best because he was a brave man and I found it espically kind when he saved all those people but I was furious when he didb'tget a medal just for being black. I would reccomend this to all ages because this is a mysterious yet hooking book.

I really liked the the character “Auntie Snowdrop“ because she stayed true to herself the whole way through the book and she was a truly wholesome person.

I love books by Michael Morpurgo. The dog in this book is called Jasper just like my dog.

02 Sep 2020

It was a fiction book. There was lots of death in the story, but they lived happily in the end after the deaths. My favourite character was Jasper the dog.

10 Aug 2020

This book was great! There was a deep surprise in the middle but some unfortunate some events of bad luck. I would recommend this book.

08 Aug 2020

I think it was very good but also very sad because Leroy died and so did Michael's dad. It was interesting to read a first-hand account about the devastations of both WW1 and WW2. I don't think I would recommend it because it is very sad.

08 Aug 2020

It was an inspiring story about a secret. Leroy was my favourite character.

02 Jul 2020

It was quite sad but happy at the end. It reminds you of actually what people did for the war especially if you have grand parents who were in the war. Like me.
