How on earth do you assess a book that has such a simple plot and which is written so simplistically? I really struggled to read this. The characters are poorly-drawn and no effort has been made to describe the landscape of the Lake District, when actually a sense of location might have lifted what is a very dull story. The protagonist, Simmy, is a young mother who, along with two of her friends, is drawn into investigating the death of a work colleague of her partner.
