Especially one that’s developing human characteristics and feelings, and who has just run away with her human?A topical and sinister middle-grade novel about artificial intelligence from the Waterstones Children s Book Prize shortlisted author of The Middler.

I really enjoyed this book because it was very different from other children’s fiction I’ve read. It covered ideas of the complexity of rules, friendship difficulties at Secondary school age, responsibility and kindness. Reminiscent of Klara and the Sun but much more appropriate for younger readers. I loved the voice of Ivy and her perspective.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has questioned what it means to be a friend.
It makes you think carefully about what friendship means to you and whether the perfect friend actually can exist.
This was one of the best books I have EVER READ! The relationship between Ivy and Sarah is so real, and I can now really imagine what being an android is like.
Exiting and fast paced, it was a very good book.
Would recommend to anyone.
Last time I read it with the class in Newham london Godwin junior school As A Class
I like this book because Ivy showed herself to be just like everyone else and it made me think that maybe TrooFriends weren't robots after all. But as they could be turned off with a switch, they must have been. My favourite character was Sarah because she was very naughty but tried to make up for things.
It is amazing and lovley
I initially wasn’t sure I wanted to read this but I’m so pleased I did! It was an easy read and flowed well. It was great at showing the importance of friendship and feelings too!
It is a superb book!
This is a super book
It was a very nice book. I loved it!
This book is about a robot who was designed to be someone's friend, and she goes to live with a girl called Sarah. There is news of the same type of robot attacking someone, so the robot, who is called Ivy, and Sarah, run away so that Ivy does not get destroyed. Ivy has also been mean to someone because she was copying Sarah, who said that her friend was boring. At the end of the book Ivy apologizes and goes to live with Ms. Jenson Junior, who runs the company that made her.
Very interesting

Loved this book even though Ivy didn’t stay with Sarah but at least Ivy stayed with Ms Jenson Junior
Clever and intriguing read. There are lots of questions raised about friendship, parents and children, ownership - I especially liked the confusions about truth (and the nature of lies). It also reminded me of other books where you start looking for how and when characters change - so you find yourself wanting to re read to chart the progress of individuals. I'd definitely recommend this as a read and as a book to talk about.
I loved this book and found it hard to put down. It thoughtfully explores issues around artificial intelligence, consciousness and the true meaning of friendship.
I throughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a book about friendship with a sci-fi twist.
I loved this book and my favourite "android" was Ivy. It was funny when she couldn't understand the sarcasm of what Sarah was saying. Definitely recommended to others!
The future is androids with feelings. I feel for Ivy,
Troofriend is a book detailing the perspective of a newly developed android called Ivy ,who is a Troofriend Mark IV. This specific robot is the latest craze and is designed to be a child's one true friend. I LOVED how it was all written in the android's perspective and how she described everything around her. I think that level of description helps you understand the story even better! I would recommend this to robot lovers and people who adore emotional books.
This book shows how quickly people can change their mind. Definitely a must-read
This book is good but it is a bit slow at the start and I found it hard to follow the plot but it gets better the further into the book you read.
I like this book because it has a really good story and it’s suspenseful, heartwarming and has an unexpected ending.
My favourite character is is Milly because she helps Sarah understand that she needs to apologise to her friends and help Ivy find a new home.
I recommend it to kids who like science fiction and robot stories.
A really different and thought-provoking book exploring the concept of Artificial Intelligence and the perfect ‘Troofriend’ android. The blossoming relationship between Sarah and her android, Ivy, creates a humorous and heartfelt story…especially as Ivy begins to develop human-like feelings and isn’t as perfect as she should be. A great exploration of friendship, bullying and how your actions can influence others.
I didn’t really like this book because it was boring and had to much detail about everything. i would recommend this book to people who like books that have lots of description
I read this book as it is our class read for Autumn 1 and I loved it! I wasn’t expecting the moral dilemmas to be quite so complex and I’m still left questioning whether Ivy did have her own feelings or if she was just copying Sarah. The themes of friendship throughout and the dynamics of friendships were so intricate and well written, it will provide fabulous discussion! I loved the humour in this book and think it would be a great independent read for children in upper key stage 2 but I’m definitely going to have fun doing the robot voice with my year 3s! Such a fun book!
I enjoyed this book very much. It was an engaging read and had a lot to say about what makes us human. Some interesting discussion points about envy/ lying and what is means to own someone or something. It reminded me a little of the brilliant 'Never let me go'. Would recommend for year 4 and above.
This is a fiction book for Year 6 and above. Sarah's parents decide that she needs a companion as they work long hours. Although Sarah requested a dog, they decided to purchase a Jensen & Jensen TrooFriend 560 Mark IV, an android friend who does not bully, harm, lie or envy. Sarah is unhappy about the troofriend but eventually names her Ivy and they become friends, although life is not at all straightforward. When problems with the TrooFriend 560 Mark IV come to light and they are recalled to be destroyed, Sarah realises that Ivy has human emotions and is very frightened. Ivy is a lovely and faithful android who is a very good friend to Sarah and this book by Kirsty Applebaum teaches that we are not all the same and about acceptance our differences.
I would highly recommend this book.
I love this book a really heartwarming book some sad parts and this book is the one with a happy ending I only gave it 4 stars because for me there were so complicated bits that didn't make sense or matching up with the story but overall I love the book and it is great if u like adventure and drama this book has all of that!
