Reviews
I have to say that not all the book club finished this book and most found it not that engaging. We felt that there were some interesting sections but there just wasn't enough detail in many parts, we wanted to know more. The writing of the book was very good but it lacked any kind of definition to it. For example, the dramtic areas of the book weren't written in a dramatic style, they just sort of happened like everything else.
We agreed that the book was well written but the plotting could have done with a bit more help just to keep us interested and to make more sense of things.
I have to add as a caviat that this book club does not enjoy magical realism on the whole so that might be some of the reason we didn't get on with the book as some things happened that we really didn't understand the reasoning behind. We didn't really enjoy how some of these magical realism elements then just stopped being part of the book, we wanted more reasons.
Overall we gave this book 3 out of 10.
