The basis for the plot is a lovely idea and could believably be based on real life events. Intertwining the stories of two main female relatives, moving from the war years to the present day, introducing the reader to all the generations of the same - mainly female - family in between.

The story is delightful with equally sad and uplifting moments. The plot moves along at a good pace however I did feel the story was exactly that; heartwarming escapism. Something to sit by the fire and read on a day to yourself, or to read on a holiday. There is nothing wrong with escapism and if you want a gentle book that bobs along in a nice direction, is a charming read, about a nice family with good life values, who live in a beautiful place, then why not?!

The recipes from the authors family recipe box are a very thoughtful addition at the end.
