The Family Tabor surprised me - in a good way. It is the story of one family, its present, its history and its secrets. The story revolves around the father and a ceremony to recognise his life’s contributions, including his substantial charitable and generous endeavours - key to the story. As his family gathers to celebrate this extraordinary achievement, all is not as it seems.

The writing is rich and detailed and at times I felt like I was right there at their table, or swimming in their pool. The author has developed each of the main characters in depth; each has their own intriguing issues they are dealing with.

There is much detail about the Jewishness of the family, but I would not call this a religious book. Rather this is a fascinating and insightful look into how their religion has shaped their lives.

The story is suspenseful and intense in parts. There are several side stories that tie in nicely towards the end of the book, along with the climax of the main plot.

This book may be slow to start for some, but it draws the reader in and doesn’t let go. A well written and developed story.
