This is a review of 'The Girls' by Emma Cline - I can't seem to find the actual book to review!!

The Reading Agency sent our group copies of this book which we decided to read in October 2017 - the group overwhelming enjoyed this book although some did find the subject matter a bit depressing - here are our thoughts:

‘A coming of age story like no other – an easy read with a page-turning story line’

‘I think I would have followed ‘The Girls’ – would you?’
‘A punchy, fast-paced book with very graphic and upsetting episodes. Cultish. The main girl, Evie, is so lost and doesn’t know who she is or where she fits in. A sad story really and a sad reflection on parts of our society.’

‘A story of a lonely teenage girl, whose lack of love and purpose draws her into a sordid world that runs alongside ‘normal’ society. Very readable –
a page turner!’
‘Female adolescent angst played out against a backdrop of 60’s ‘free love’ in a manson-esque cult! Quite depressing!’

‘Very well written and descriptive. Sets out the period covered by the book very well- atmospheric. The characters are well drawn and interesting.’

‘Well written. Rather depressing. A waste of
young lives!’

‘Scary, harrowing and sometimes depressing insight into the life of a cult set in the 1960’s.’
