Macclesfield Library Reading Group

This book is now called 'Skin' and it was our second book group book.

All of our members came together and said that they furtherly enjoyed this book - what was really interesting was that each member enjoyed the book for different reasons.

Reasons members cited for enjoying the book:
-the use of language and celtic imagery
-historical facts that were woven into the story
-obviously very well researched
-the use of a strong female lead
- the characters were very well developed
-the mystical elements to the book including the rituals which felt very 'pagan' and 'shamanic'
-the love interests

What we didnt enjoy:
-it ended quite abruptly
-the use of 'Skin' as a totem was a bit wishy-washy - we are still not fully sure what 'Skin' is.
-some members felt that it read like a young adult novel or would be more suited to teens/others enjoyed that it read 'young'.

Overall we throughly enjoyed the book and look forward to what Ilka Tampke comes up with next

St Regulus AJ

Book now titled 'Skin'. Set in England just as the Roman armies are massing to invade, this is the story of a foundling girl who, against the odds, rises to a position of power in her clan. Ailia is a well drawn character and the book has plenty of detail about Celtic Britain. The content about magical powers did not appeal to me. Is this book intended for the pre-adult market?
