An extraordinary tale of love, loss, imagination and not really being there, for fans of Roald Dahl and Neil Gaiman. Coming to Netflix as an animated feature film in 2024.

Rudger is Amanda’s best friend. He doesn’t exist, but nobody’s perfect.

Only Amanda can see her imaginary friend – until the sinister Mr Bunting arrives at Amanda’s door. Mr Bunting hunts imaginaries. Rumour says that he eats them. And he’s sniffed out Rudger. Soon Rudger is alone, and running for his imaginary life. But can a boy who isn’t there survive without a friend to dream him up?

A brilliantly funny, scary and moving read from the unique imagination of A.F. Harrold, this beautiful book is astoundingly illustrated with integrated art and colour spreads by the award-winning Emily Gravett.

Rudger is in Amanda's wardrobe when she gets home from school. But he isn't real. Well, no one but Amanda can see him. In other words, he is her imaginary. Together they have fun and play made-up games and share food - but then Amanda is hit by a car. Rudger finds himself fading. He doesn't know what to do. Luckily, there is a place for lost imaginaries. But Mr Bunting, a man who eats imaginaries, comes along...and he eats Emily, Rudger's best friend after Amanda. What can he do?

I thought that this book was a little bit confusing, because I didn't always know who was alive. My favourite person was Zinzan. I recommend this book to 10 and 11 year olds.

I enjoy reading this book as it has loads of funny ideas packed inside ,then it all explodes near the middle of the story. I rate this book 4/5 because the author could have put in more imagination nevertheless this book is amazing. Try this book and you will not get bored on the first page as usually you will find yourself getting bored when you open the book. This book also has an introduction which helps you figure out what's going on.

I think you should definetely read this book, especially if you're 7 and over. I won't tell your to much apart from that it contains funny bits, is exciting, sometimes scary (from my point of view!) and truly from my heart, sometimes sad. A very good book, I highly recommend and especially nice for children who have vivid imaginations (like myself!).
