Opal Plumstead might be plain, but she has always been fiercely intelligent. Yet her scholarship and dreams of university are snatched away when her father is sent to prison, and fourteen-year-old Opal must start work at the Fairy Glen sweet factory to support her family.

I think it was a really good book but it was a bit old for some people in my school. I liked how they included votes for women and beautiful paintings. It was very long and detailed (which I liked). One of my favourite authors is Jaqueline Wilson.

Opal is interesting and kind because she helps her friends at school, even the ones that aren’t kind to her.
Each chapter they talk about haunted places and ghosts. We also find out that Opal’s dad is an author.
It’s a must read.

This book is one of my all-time favourites as it gives an insight into the suffragettes and the huge political difference they made to the current world today. Young Opal Plumstead aspires to become a suffragette and wants to be like her boss, Mrs Roberts. Soon, Mrs Robert's Son, Morgan, as they both becomes friends. Morgan had become more to young Opal and the first world war loomed and Morgan become a soldier. He then tragically died. I would recommend this to anyone who loves history but besides anyone who loves reading.

When her life is turned is turned upside down, she must begin day 1. At the factory where many think of her as arrogant and snobby. But not Mrs Roberts the one she idolises deeply.Mrs Roberts introduces her to a friend and Opal becomes a suffragette the one and only Emily pankhurst is leading it. This was a fantastic read. I would highly recommend this inspiring, heart warming story

I really like it but it is a bit sad at the end and I think that all stories should have mostly happy endings.I like Opal best and I can see why she feels like she does and acts like she does. It feels so much like a real event that I can see myself in the situation. I would recommend it to 9 or 10 and over.

I really enjoyed this book
I thought it was a bit sudden when her father went into prison for stealing since he seemed a humble character
My favourite characters are, Opal, the main character and the factory owner, Mrs Roberts because they both looked out for each other.
I would definitely recommend it to someone else because I enjoyed it thoroughly 😊

The most interesting character is Mrs Roberts, the factory owner, because sometimes she cares for Opal but other times she doesn’t like Opal.

It was very sad but I liked it.

I liked Opal because she believed her father was innocent ,and worked very hard to help her family. I liked how she joined the suffragettes even though it was dangerous. If you like books with adventure and a brave character who against all odds became things many people would dream about. Then this book would be great for you .
