Safety
Reading Groups for Everyone is all about meeting up with readers and writers in the real world. Groups on the site are either run by organisations (such as libraries) and take place in public places or by individuals and take place in all sorts of different venues.
If you're thinking about going to a reading or writing group please do take some simple safety precautions:
- Get in touch with the group organiser via their group page to check that the group is running at the time and place it says it is
- Phone the venue before hand to double-check
- Tell a friend where you are going if it's the first time you are attending the group
- Trust your instincts: if anything seems suspicious for any reason, report them to Reading Groups for Everyone and the police
If you are using Reading Groups for Everyone to arrange for your child to go to a reading or writing group, take all the steps you consider necessary to ensure their safety. Organisations who run groups for babies and toddlers, children, young people and families will have staff with recent Enhanced CRB Disclosure – get in touch with them via the relevant group page or their profile to check.
