This is the story of little Megan, a baby born with one of the most difficult starts to life. Megan is addicted to drugs from birth due to her mother’s substance abuse during pregnancy, and suffers crippling withdrawal symptoms. She is also born with a cleft palate, meaning Megan is in need of extra care, love and attention.

Megan’s mother is deemed unfit to care for her, given her drug addiction and lack of reliability, and experienced foster carer Rosie is asked to look after Megan – just temporarily whilst a permanent ‘forever family’ is found for her. However, as time passes and little Megan grows, it becomes clear that she has become incredibly attached to Rosie, and she doesn’t want to leave her.

The foster care and adoption systems are complex and often decisions lie outside of the hands of the foster carers themselves… will Megan find her ‘forever mummy’, and will it be Rosie?

Taken offers a unique insight into a secret world of adoption and the care system, touching on the themes of neonatal abstinence syndrome and other new born medical issues.
