Waking Lions by Ayelet Gundar-Goshen

We are offering 20 reading groups the chance to read and review Waking Lions by Ayelet Gundar-Goshen, author of the acclaimed One Night Markovitch.

Each group will be asked to post a review online and have the opportunity to ask the author herself a question. The best 5 questions will be answered by the author and published on Reading Groups for Everyone!

Waking Lions

After an exhausting night shift, Dr Eitan Green leaves the hospital, gets into his luxurious SUV and speeds down a deserted, moonlit Negev road.

Then, suddenly, he hits someone. He is horrified to discover that the injured man – an African migrant – has no chance of surviving. Eitan flees the scene.

The victim’s beautiful widow knows everything. But when she turns up unannounced at Eitan’s door, intent on blackmail, it isn’t money she’s after, but something quite different… something which will completely shatter Eitan’s comfortable world.

At a time when heart-breaking stories of refugees dominate the news, Waking Lions takes an unrelenting look at the darkest corners of Israeli society and of the human soul; at the complexities of displacement and the fear of estrangement.
