The winner of the 2012 Wellcome Trust Book Prize is Circulation by Thomas Wright.
Circulation is the biography of William Harvey, the first person to accurately describe how blood circulates through the human body.
The winner of the £25,000 prize was announced at an awards ceremony at the Wellcome Collection in London on 7 November. This unique prize is open to outstanding works of fiction and non-fiction on the theme of health and medicine. It celebrates books that explore ideas relating to this theme and aims to stimulate interest, excitement and debate about medicine and literature, reaching audiences not normally engaged with medical science.
The shortlist included three novels and three works of non-fiction:
* The Hour Between Dog and Wolf by John Coates
* The Train in the Night by Nick Coleman
* Our Lady of Alice Bhatti by Mohammed Hanif
* Perfect People by Peter James
* A Man of his Time by Rose Tremain
* Circulation by Thomas Wright
