Read the first chapter here.

The Son

Sonny is a model prisoner. He listens to the confessions of other inmates and absolves them of their sins.

But then one prisoner’s confession changes everything. He knows something about Sonny’s disgraced father.

Sonny needs to break out of prison and make those responsible pay for their crimes – whatever the cost.

Our selection panel described Jo’s novel as “imaginative, chilling and a definite page turner”. They also praised the translation, which “keeps a sense of place, and the language doesn’t sound in any way stilted”. For one reviewer, it was her first experience of reading Jo Nesbø: “The Son is my first Jo Nesbø novel, and he lived up to his reputation. I was hooked from the very beginning.”
