Closes tonight: Shadow the Women's Prize for Fiction 2024

The Women’s Prize Trust’s mission is to change the world through books by women, opening up pathways into reading and writing for the storytellers and booklovers of tomorrow.

Now in its 29th year and sponsored by Audible and Baileys, the 2024 Women’s Prize for Fiction shines a spotlight on outstanding, ambitious, original fiction written in English by women from anywhere in the world.

Read more about the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2024 longlist.

After opening up this year’s reading group shadowing to include both the Women’s Prize for Fiction and the inaugural Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction we have now closed the opportunity to apply for both prizes together, and groups who have been successful in their applications to shadow the Non-Fiction prize will be contacted shortly. If you already applied for both prizes, or the Women’s Prize for Fiction only, you do not need to apply again, and will be notified when this opportunity closes at 11:59pm on 22 April 2024.

The shadowing opportunity

As part of this year’s celebrations, we have the exciting opportunity for six UK based book clubs to shadow the Women’s Prize for Fiction. If your group would like to take part, please carefully read the key dates below and fill out the questions below by 12pm on 22 April 2024.

How it works

Each successful book club will receive a set of copies of one shortlisted book – in the format of their choice – which they will need to read, discuss and send back feedback and reviews by 5 June 2024. Each group will also have a questionnaire to fill in to share more insight into their meeting where they discussed the book and individual members are to share reviews on Reading Groups for Everyone website.

The Reading Agency will be hosting a virtual meeting with two members from each of the six selected book clubs (dates, timing tbc). This is so that we can meet you all, introduce you to each other and so you may ask any questions you may have about the process.

This year, we are delighted to invite the six selected groups each prize to a private Zoom event with a judge of the Prize, where two members from each group will give their group’s feedback. Groups will have the chance to meet the other groups involved, share their reflections on the books, and get a unique glimpse behind the scenes of the Prize. The events will take place w/c 27th May or w/c 3rd June from 6.15pm (tbc).

We are keen to have groups who are engaged with social media to increase the reach of the Prize. All groups are welcome to apply. Please contact [email protected] if you have any questions.

Please do not enter if your club does not wish to engage with any of activities outlined above.

Applications will close at 12pm on 22 April 2024.
