Our #ReadingJourney fundraising appeal

We are raising money to help more people read well and read with confidence. Here’s why:

Andy McNab spent the first 17 years of his life unable to read well and he now wants to help people of all ages to read more and read with confidence, and support people at all stages of their reading journey. He has just set off on the journey of a lifetime to the South Pole, and on 1 December he starts a gruelling 18 day trek, covering 100 miles across ice, in temperatures around -30°C, to help us reach our target.

Christmas is a great time of year to catch up on your reading, but some people aren’t quite as fortunate as us. As keen readers you know just how important reading for pleasure is and the positive difference it makes to lives, but some people can’t read well and their lives are held back; they are nervous about going to the supermarket, or filling in forms, or even sending out Christmas cards. We want to help these people.

Can you help us raise £25,000 to fund our reading programmes? We have already raised over £12,000 with our #ReadingJourney appeal but we still have a long way to go!

What are we raising money for?

As well as running Reading Groups for Everyone and offering you great books and competitions, we work with libraries, schools, colleges, medical professionals, workplaces and prisons to support people of all ages to start on their #ReadingJourney.

What can you do?

Can you make a donation? You can sponsor Andy here, or text READ15 £5 to 70070

If you are inspired by Andy’s story and share our belief that everything changes when we read, then please tweet and Facebook your friends, family and colleagues using our #ReadingJourney appeal hashtag. At your next reading group could you: make a collection, or hold a bake sale, or run a raffle? We would be so grateful. Let us know what you decide to do and we will share it.

Everyone who donates has the chance to win tickets to a special event with Andy on 7 January and two lucky winners will be invited to dinner with him that evening.

You are reading this because your #ReadingJourney has a happy ending. Please help those who are just starting out on theirs.

Thank you
