Reading is one of life’s greatest joys. It awakens our imagination, inspires and challenges us throughout our lives. To celebrate this, the BBC has launched #LovetoRead in partnership with all the main reading charities, libraries and publishers. Look out for an exciting season of radio and TV programmes with reading at their heart, featuring Sue Townsend, Michael Palin, Marlon James, Willy Russell, Julie Walters, Chris Packham, Cerys Matthews, Andrew Marr, Marian Keyes, David Nicholls, Jilly Cooper and Ian Rankin and many more. #LovetoRead Weekend, 5 – 6 November
All of this celebration is leading up to the big #LovetoRead weekend happening on 5 – 6 November, when the nation will be encouraged to put aside some time and curl up with a book. Check out our Noticeboard for some fantastic books to accompany your weekend!
We will kicking off the weekend with Radio 1 presenter and author Gemma Cairney in conversation with The Reading Agency at the British Library in London highlighting the books that have changed her life, the barriers faced by people who struggle to read and her activism around young people’s mental health. You can buy tickets here.
Young people and #LovetoRead
Our programme for young people (13-24) is teaming up with the BBC in libraries around the country from 24 October to 6 November, with competitions, interviews and guest posts from authors, bloggers and vloggers on the Reading Hack website. There will be events with authors Juno Dawson, Alexia Casale and Sita Brahmachari at libraries across the country. Find out more here.
