Helping a great cause and eating cake? What could be better?

We are fundraising with our #ReadingJourney appeal to give thousands more people the chance to read well and read with confidence. We are being supported by Andy McNab who has just started a gruelling 18 day trek, in temperatures around -30°C, on his way to the South Pole before Christmas.

FUNdraising ideas

We have also had amazing support from Ted Baker, the fashion and lifestyle brand who have already sponsored Andy’s 100 mile expedition across the Antarctic ice and are about to host a cake bake sale just before Christmas, cleverly titled Get Icing, to help raise even more for the appeal. We at The Reading Agency will also be holding our own Book and Bake sale, and will share our pictures with you next week, showing the lengths we will go to support the cause.

Spoiler alert – we are trying to persuade our senior management team to wear penguin costumes…watch this space!

It would be fantastic if any of you and our other wonderful reading group members might like to join in, by holding a bake sale, or a book swap, or anything that you think would help us raise money for this appeal. This could be at your next meeting, in your office, or maybe at your child’s school. What could be lovelier than talking about books with a big piece of cake, and at the same time knowing that you are helping so many others to discover the joys of reading?

We would love you to tell us about the creative ideas you have to raise money for this essential cause. Dressing up is highly recommended, and pictures of people eating cake would be very well received! You can email us with your ideas, photos and feedback, post on Facebook or tweet us @ReadingAgency #ReadingJourney.

Thanks to BuBakes for the inspirational cake pictures!

What can you do?

Can you make a donation? You can sponsor Andy here, or text READ15 £5 to 70070.

If you are inspired by our appeal and Andy’s trek and share our belief that everything changes when we read, then please tweet and Facebook your friends, family and colleagues using our #ReadingJourney appeal hashtag.

Everyone who donates has the chance to win tickets to a special event with Andy on 7 January and two lucky winners will be invited to dinner with him that evening.

You are reading this because your #ReadingJourney has a happy ending. Please help those whose journey is just beginning.

Thank you!
