I enjoyed reading this book and I just wanted to keep reading on to find out what was going to happen next in the story. It was also a bit of a sad story because Lizzie ( a lady in a care home ) was telling the nurse and the nurse's son the story of her childhood which was when there was a war going on which is very scary and hard especially when they have an elephant to look after.

An Elephant in the Garden by Michael Morpurgo When Liz, an elderly patient starts to tell Karl all about her elephant that she owned when she was a young child, a tale begins to unravel as she recalls her childhood memories of her story again. On the run from the Americans and the Russians, Mutti(her mother),Karli(her brother) and herself are escaping from their burning German city, and it is made harder to escape with an elephant. Fleeing from their home city, they meet a Canadian Air Force pilot. He takes them on a journey to safety where Marlene(the elephant) is lost in the forest. Will her family and a friend be able to find Marlene in time? A sensational tale of a family lost in the ruins of war and an uplifting ending pulling the tale together. I would recommend this book to those of you who love dramatic cliff-hangers and unexpected turn of events and rate it four out of five stars. Hope you enjoy this book, have fun reading!

I enjoyed this book because the character in the story, Lizzie, is telling a story so it isn’t justa story about some characters that go on an adventure, it is about a story that has happened in Germany 1945. In this year Lizzie, Karli, Lizzie’s little brother, and their mother are in Dresden and lots of Allied Bombs start to fall all around them. It is quite sad when their home gets destroyed and they have to flee through the city. In the middle of the book I feel worried because I thought that the Russian Troops might reach them and something bad might happen but it turns out they didn’t reach them. Michael Morpurgo makes the book very detailed so when they had to take the elephant with the it made me feel scared that it might get up to mischief. I enjoyed this book because it made me think a lot about what was happening and it made me feel different emotions at different parts of the story.
