It is Midwinter’s Eve, the night before Will’s eleventh birthday. But there is an atmosphere of fear in the familiar countryside around him. Will is about to make a shocking discovery.

I would definitely recommend this book. My favourite character was Merriman.
I like this book because the tension is quite high. It's about a boy called Will. He discovers that he has the power of the Old Ones, and that he must embark on a quest to vanquish the terrifyingly evil magic of the Dark. I would recommend this book to age 9+.
The dark is rising is an amazing book of magic and mysteries.
This is a sequence and I've only read 1 of the books in it.
This book is great because it is about this boy finding out he is the seventh son of a seventh son and discovers on the eve of his eleventh birthday that only he can save the world from the dark!
My favourite character is Will, because he is very brave and when the dark has nearly won, he keeps going! I love how exciting this book is and would recommend it to people who enjoy action and adventure.
Bought this book to engage my son, a reluctant reader, and we both loved it. Best of all it is the first in a series.
It is a proper adventure story with mystery, magic, creepy baddies, good and evil, kids left to get on with it. And it is set in Cornwall by the sea - my home! It had us both gripped as the writing is brilliant and suspenseful.
I liked this book because a lot happened so you always want to read more to find out what happens next. I thought that sometimes it was a bit complicated as they travelled back in time so it did not always make it clear if they were in there own time or not. I would definitely recommend this to other people. I do not like fantasy books but I still liked this. It might sound crazy on the blurb but it is very good.
Not as good as the prequel ‘Over Sea, Under Stone’ but a very exciting book. It was full of adventure although a little confusing in places. You get over it. The book made me really feel like I was Will. 4/5.
This book is a amazing sequel to the first book Over Sea Under Stone, surprisingly you can figure out that this book is set at the same time as Over sea Under stone. This book is an extravagant story about the battle of light and dark.
A strong plot enticing blurb but characters need some work.
if you like books about magic then read this also it's in a series
this book is sledding.
Great! A real page turner
The Best series every written. Its so good I remember parts of the book I have read it so many times. Dark fantasy but with hope and courage as well. Read the entire series, its a book you will never forget and if you vist any of the places that are in the book you will get chills because of how good the descriptions are!
