A headmistress is found strangled in an East London school, the victim of a ritualistic act of violence. Found at the scene is a single piece of card, upon which is written an ancient Buddhist precept: I SHALL ABSTAIN FROM TAKING THE UNGIVEN. At first, DI Maya Rahman can’t help but hope this is a tragic but isolated murder. Then, the second body is found. Faced with a community steeped in secrets and prejudice, Maya must untangle the cryptic messages left at the crime scenes to solve the deadly riddle behind the murders – before the killer strikes again. Turn a Blind Eye is the first book in a brand-new series set in East London and starring DI Maya Rahman.

Reading Groups @ Leigh

The Crime Reading Group meets the third Thursday of every month at Leigh Library. 6:00pm to 7:00pm. This month’s Title was Turn a Blind Eye by Vicky Newham.
Here are some of our reviews below:
“What an engrossing read. The intrigue throughout, prevented you from guessing the Identity of the Culprit. There wasn’t’ a bad bit in this book. The plots twists and turns kept the reader guessing!”

“An interesting window into forced/ arranged marriages. A crime most people can’t have any comprehension of. I wish we could have learnt more about Maya’s earlier life while at home and School. I believe it would have relevance to her motivation to become a detective..”

“A Great modern crime thriller!! A whodunit with clues to follow. Great character background and a unique perspective into a different culture and way of life. Wonderful strong characters, especially Maya Rahman. A lot of characters to track and remember, apart from that a very good book.”
