Macclesfield Library reading group review of “If I Die Before I Wake” by Emily Koch

“I enjoyed the book, I really connected with Alex. It is very true how a change in circumstances can change your whole mind set from wanting to die to wanting to live.”

“Thought provoking but slow and steady pace- gives one a lot to think about regarding life and death.”

“Wasn’t a bad concept-but it somehow floundered as it went along and then the ending was somewhat of an anti-climax. None of the characters to me were particularly appealing either.”

“I felt Uncomfortable with the ending and the change into schmaltzy quasi-belief system. I also worried about people reading this book who had negative coma experiences.”

“Thought provoking but for me not emotionally charged. However this may have been the author’s intention after 2 years in a coma a detachment may have happened. An interesting type of thriller that delved into some very human issues.”

“A good concept but I found it a rather slow paced book and the ending disappointing.”

“I enjoyed the way the author wrote the book. It was different from books I have read before. I enjoyed reading it from Alex’s point of view and I found myself inside Alex’s head. The murder gave the book a good twist. Such a sad ending. I think I really connected.”
