An intriguing novel, with two narratives running alongside each other. Erica stumbles across some belongings from her great-grandmother's life when her grandmother Meredith dies. She becomes fascinated by the lives of her ancestors and their hatred of the local tinker family, aswell as the disappearance of cousin Henry. Meanwhile we read about the life of Caroline, the great-grandmother in America and the two stories begin to shed light on one another. I found this novel an easy summer read but it definitely captured my imagination. Would recommend.

The Legacy is the intriguing story of the wealthy Calcott family from the early 1900's to the present day, from the wild west to the English aristocracy. There are heartbreaking skeletons in the closet and lots of tight lipped ladies guarding secrets but as Erica digs around in her family's past the secrets are gradually uncovered. It's an enjoyable, easy to read novel that's totally engaging and gives lots for a reading group to discuss: families, relationships, secrets, racism, loyalties, duty and more. Our group really enjoyed both the read and the discussion.
