Award-winning writer Patrick Ness’s bold and irreverent novel powerfully reminds us that there are many different types of remarkable.

Award-winning writer Patrick Ness’s bold and irreverent novel powerfully asks what if you weren’t the Chosen One? The one who’s supposed to fight the zombies, or the soul-eating ghosts, or whatever this new thing is, with the blue lights and the death? What if you were like Mikey? Who just wants to graduate and go to prom and maybe finally work up the courage to ask Henna out before someone goes and blows up the high school. Again. Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week’s end of the world and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life. Even if your best friend might just be the God of mountain lions… An exceptional novel from the author praised by John Green as ""an insanely beautiful writer"".

This was excellent. I've read one of his books before and this one was another great read. I didn't want to put it down. I liked the clever way the characters were constructed and the way in which big issues were explored with humour but in a very believable way.

This book was so imaginative and exiting that I couldn't put it down! It's got everything - zombies, vampires, romance, wit, and it made me cry. A perfect book for girls and boys, I will be reading more of him.

I love Patrick Ness's books. I love his characters, most particularly the emotional depth and the author's refusal to write the "easy option". He never goes for the simplistic black and white portrayal but creates real people undergoing real thoughts, decisions, issues, concerns and difficulties. I'm not going to rehash the blurb, but I've never been disappointed yet in a Ness book; he doesn't hesitate to explore different worlds (whether the dystopian, the fantastical or the whimsical and magical world of the chapter heading excerpts of this book) and he never fails to captivate.
