When a body is hauled from the River Tyne, Sarah Tucker heads North for a closer look. She identifies the dead woman as private detective Zoe Boehm, but putting a name to the corpse only raises further questions. Did Zoe kill herself, or did one of her old cases come looking for her? Why was she wearing a jacket a murderer had stolen years before?

Oundle Crime

This is an early book by Mick Herron, published in 2009 as one of his ‘Oxford’ series. When a body is hauled from the River Tyne, Sarah Tucker heads to Newcastle for a closer look and identifies the dead woman as her friend, private detective Zoe Boehm. It’s not clear whether Zoe was killed or committed suicide, and Sarah wants to find out. Then a mutual friend of the women arrives in Newcastle and suddenly ‘coincidence’ doesn’t seem plausible. I absolutely loved this. It's engrossing and clever, and written with real panache. This series may be old hat now but I'm trying to track down the other four novels in the series. It was that good!
