As a group we didn't all agree on this book. it is centred around a selection of letters written by the authors parents. As one of our group said " I am sure that the author found them fascinating as they belonged to his parents, but they did nothing for me" it was suggested that if Robert had maybe wrote the story around the letters it might have been more reader friendly. other members of the group found the social history of the book interesting.
