At the age of thirty, Amy Liptrot finds herself washed up back home on Orkney. Standing unstable on the island, she tries to come to terms with the addiction that has swallowed the last decade of her life. As she spends her mornings swimming in the bracingly cold sea, her days tracking Orkney’s wildlife, and her nights searching the sky for the Merry Dancers, Amy discovers how the wild can restore life and renew hope.

The book proved to be a great staring point for a very lively discussion within our group. While many had mixed feeling about the style and format of the book we all felt it gave an insight into the problem of alcoholism and it's effect on the authors life. We all loved the descriptions of island life and the natural world. Some felt they were glad they had read the book but were not sure weather it was a book they had enjoyed. Would recommend it as a good read for a group.
