As a child, Helen Macdonald was determined to become a falconer, learning the arcane terminology and reading all the classic books. Years later, when her father died and she was struck deeply by grief, she became obsessed with the idea of training her own goshawk. This is a book about memory, nature and nation, and more.

Preschool Parent's Book Club Loved the author's writing which was both sensitive, personal, yet universally able to take the reader through the process of grief, along with her journey of self discovery after she takes on the responsibility of rearing her Goshawk, Mabel, which interweaves the live and writings of Goshawk handler and author, T.H. White. This books is unique and one-of-a-kind and deserves to be on shelves in every home as a book of hope. Beautifully written and worthy of the many awards it has achieved.
