Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief

This was recommended to me by one of my Year 3 bookworms. He has read the series - several times. I enjoyed the fast pace and the many challenges. I can understand why the boys enjoy these. Not sure if I want to read all of them but I can now discuss. My quest is to get the boys to read my recommendations now.

Great if you like Greek gods and adventure. Much better than the film!

I read this as my 9 year old son wanted to read it as he had a love of Greek mythology. It’s fast paced with great characters making it an unputdownable read for both of us! We’ve gone on to read the complete series and the others too!

Action packed story, filled with mythology and an engaging plot.

It took me a while to get into this story but I eventually became interested in how the three friends would achieve their mission. It provided an interesting insight into the thoughts and feelings of children who have difficult relationships with parents and I ended caring about the outcomes.

As a recommended book for my new year group, I read this book in preparation. The theme of a young boy discovering that he is the son of a mythical God is one that many a 9-10 year old would enjoy. As the story progresses, he comes across many of the mythological creatures that children may have heard of.
The chapters are very long, which can be off-putting if you like reading a chapter at a time (for weaker readers) and there are lots of different things crammed in, whereas some could have been lengthened and made more of.
Not my type of book, but others may enjoy it.

I enjoyed this book because the way that it's in first person and not so formal makes it easy to read and understand even though it's more of an out-of-this-world kind of story.

This book is awesome. If you like Greek Gods then this is the book for you. I loved the fact that Percy is a Demigod.

I liked Percy because he is quite powerful and dumb because he trusted Ares when he was the one who put the bolt in his bag. Plus Percy beats the God of War but is cursed by him. I would recommend it to someone else if they know greek mythology.

A very good story line and very well thought though

I really enjoyed reading this book. I especially liked the adventures they had and the obstacles they had to overcome. this book also includes alot of history about the Greek gods which made me interested to find out more about Greek mythology and how people worshippped them back in the Greek times. my favourite character is Annabeth, she's smart and she is really brave, even against the monsters they face. I would definitely reccommend this book to someone who likes books about adventures and myths.

I liked Grover best.Although he got scared easily he helped a lot and (WOW) he was a satyr!
I would reccomend it.

I liked Percy Jackson as he is the son of Poseidon, he discovers that in water he can heal himself , he can also get help from the water and fight his enemies. I found it interesting because the plot is action / adventure and is exciting. I would recommend this book.

I love this book as greek mythology and modern teenage life combined is an excellent combo.I liked how he knew grover for a long time and never know he was a satyr

I love this book as it makes me feel that there is a possibility that the tale is true. Percy Jackson lives with his mum and her boyfriend, he finds out he is a demigod and the son of Poseidon the Greek water god. He goes to a camp, ambushed by a Minotaur who supposedly kills his mum.Percy goes on a quest to find Zeus’s lightning bolt to stop a war which Zeus will start if it is not returned. Percy is thought to of stolen Zeus’s bolt and clears his name, he gets betrayed by his friend Luke who ties to kill him and announces he is working for Kronos, the evil Titan. I recommend this book to Sam S and Josh D,

I didn’t think I would like this book but it is great!

I read it twice and watched the film i loved it.

This is literally one of my favorite books ever. It's so funny and it's so cool that it's based on Greek mythology. Not only is it hilarious, but also so informative because it teaches us a lot about Greek mythology. Percy is my favorite character because he's so funny, and even though he acts like an idiot most of the time, he's actually pretty smart. I would definitely recommend this book to all age groups.

I personally think that the book is packed with action and comedy that I cannot put it down. Not only is there action like when Percy fights the Minotaur, but there is also tragic having to be a half blood. The character that I liked best is probably Grover (Percy's saytr) because he is so determined to get it done and done well that he forgets some stuff. I would recommend this book to readers who love a bit of action and also the titles of chapters are super funny.
